1. Conceptualize.
Before anything else, you must visualize the type of video that you want to be in. You need to get inspired. Come up with many possibilities to get the juices flowing. Better yet, if one video idea doesn’t catch on, you can use another from this think-tank session. Originality is your opening.
2. Entertain.
Before you start thinking about your audience, think about yourself. What are the types of things that you like to watch on YouTube? What inspirations can you draw from? Borrowing ideas is never a bad idea, as long as you change them enough and make them your own. You will only be able to entertain an audience after you’re already entertaining yourself. Your passion must shine through.
3. Create.
Now that you’ve decided on your direction, it’s time to charge your batteries and get the cameras rolling! Quick tip; always remember to edit your videos. Make something that you’d want to watch, and then set it free onto YouTube. Try releasing three or four videos together; this will not only help give you the hang of creating, but it will more importantly better position yourself inside YouTube community.
4. Repeat.
Alright, so you’ve followed these first three steps. This will lead you on your way to a great start, but you’re still not famous yet. That’s okay; it’s actually rather expected at this point. From here on out, it’s time to practice. Practice does make perfect. Repetition is a great tool for familiarizing yourself with YouTube. The more you use it, the more you’ll see what’s going on around the site; what’s being posted, what works in terms of content and viewership, etc. This will teach you how to adapt to the medium.
5. Actualize.
You’ve now paid your dues. You’ve become an active YouTube member, you know its ins and outs, and you know what sells. Now it’s time to tie everything together. Build a theme, or concept, out of all the videos you’re created so far and connect them together with a new video. This video will be different; it will be talking about your profile. You can directly speak to your audience in this video, if you wish. Tell them what’s on your mind, what your goals are, that you’ve listened to their suggestions and that you’re working on improving your content. Encourage them; be thoughtful. Finally, tell them to stay tuned for bigger and better things.
6. Latch.
Take this “actualized” video and latch it onto videos that have already proven to be viral. The more views they’ve received the better. You can even latch it to up-and-coming videos that you think will break out, music videos, movie trailers, etc. Make sure though to latch it as a “Video Response.” Not surprisingly, this will bring in a lot of viewers, and a lot more hits. Basically, this is an advertisement for your videos. The fact that you speak about your content in the video will entice viewers; they’ll get to know what you’re all about. This will increase the traffic to your profile tenfold.
7. Anticipate.
Now that you know when the viewers are going to start coming in, you need to hit them with fresh material weekly. Be prepared for an increased volume of traffic and capitalize on it. This is your chance for thousands of viewers. Create more and more entertaining videos. Captivate your audience by conceptualizing, actualizing and repeating. Do you see the pattern here? This is a viral cycle that works in your favor. Use it to draw your audience in. Anticipate big results and you’ll achieve them.
8. Diligence.
You have to be proactive and consistent in making your videos become truly viral. Log into your account every day to stay on top of YouTube happenings. Now that you have subscribers, tend to their needs. Listen to what they’re saying about your videos and try to satisfy them without losing your creative drive. Be influential in the community. Watch others videos, post comments everywhere and offer “likes.” Make yourself as visible as possible. And above all else, maintain your pace. Now is not the time to start slacking, in fact it’s quite the opposite. Create, entertain, and repeat – often.
9. Be unique.
Because you’re now visible in the YouTube community, it’s time to separate yourself from the pack. Take anything that you’ve borrowed from other videos and drop them. It’s time to bring your own unique ideas and stylings to the foreground. Show you’re viewership why you’ve achieved so many hits, make it known that you’re offering them something special. Express yourself and make a lasting impression on the community.
10. You; personified.
At this point, you should be a living entity in the YouTube community. There is you the person, and you the star. You now should try to foster a separate identity for your online persona. You need to turn your characters and videos into a brand. In other words, now that your videos are popular, you need to become marketable yourself…
